All About Me! |
I grew up just North of Toronto, Ontario in a suburban city that has tripled in size since I was born. I have wanted to be a teacher since grade 1, when my teacher asked me. Now, I went through the "chef" stage for a while, but realized that I didn't want to be working nights and weekends... little did I know...
After High School I attended Seneca College to complete a pre-university program. I was able to complete this General Arts and Science Diploma and transferred to D'Youville College in Buffalo NY to complete a concurrent Master of Science in Education (2008). In the 2009-2010 school year I was ready to start my career as a teacher, but the market in my area was over saturated with teachers. I was able to get some substitute teaching days (22 to be exact) with a few of the Private/Independent schools and I worked as a tutor as well. Though I was working in my field, it wasn't enough. A friend of mine from University had a job teaching in Northern Alberta and called me once a month to talk about how amazing it was and what a great opportunity it would be for me so when 2 jobs opened up in March 2010 my boyfriend and I decided to apply. That August we packed up my car and moved West. I started my teaching career as a grade 1 teacher at a small Band run First Nation school in Northern Alberta, that same school my friend worked at. It was a great experience and I stayed at that school for 4 and a half years. I taught grade 1 most of the time, but I had a chance to loop with my first class into grade 3 so I took it! The year after I went back to grade 1. In December 2014 I said goodbye to this little school that gave me my start to start a new journey as a temporary grade 4 teacher from January - June 2015. And this year (2015-2016) I started another new adventure as a substitute teacher. As of March 2016 I am taking a maternity leave to care for our preemie baby born 7 weeks early. I am loving being a mom but I hope to go back to teaching in the 2017-2018 school year. In the meantime check out my Canadian Letter and Number Exchanges because I will be setting these up again this year! |
